Justice Neil Gorsuch is a welcome addition to the Supreme Court for conservatives seeking common sense interpretation of the nation’s laws, at least based on his judicial record. From what can be discerned from his legal writings (senators learned nothing from his answers to questions in the confirmation hearing) Justice Gorsuch is firmly outside the legal mainstream, believing in an interpretation of the Constitution that is frozen in the 18th century. Reid pushed through a change in the Senate’s rules to prevent filibusters of nominations for administration jobs and for federal judges – except nominees to the U.S. Supreme Court.
