CFJ Announces Curt Levey as General Counsel
August 30, 2005
WASHINGTON, DC -- The Committee for Justice (CFJ), which promotes constitutionalist judicial nominees, announced today that Curt Levey has been named as its General Counsel.
Mr. Levey, who is available for print and broadcast interviews, has broad experience with the Supreme Court, lower federal courts, and the leading constitutional and civil rights issues of the day. His knack for explaining legal issues to the public has made him a frequent guest on national radio and television programs.
After graduating Harvard Law School with honors and clerking for the U.S. Court of Appeals, Mr. Levey served as Director of Legal & Public Affairs at the Center for Individual Rights. There he worked on landmark Supreme Court cases involving affirmative action, federalism, and the Voting Rights Act. His op-eds appeared in major national and legal newspapers. And he spoke about the law to numerous live audiences, including at Yale, Harvard, and Georgetown law schools. Most recently, Mr. Levey served as the head of the Title IX policy group at the U.S. Education Department's Office for Civil Rights.
Sean Rushton, CFJ's executive director, explained today that, "Curt is a very valuable addition to CFJ because he brings vast knowledge of the federal courts, impressive communications skills, and hands-on experience with the very issues animating the judicial confirmation debate. With this addition, CFJ has expanded its ability to provide rapid response legal analysis."
Mr. Levey described what drew him to CFJ: "After working on some of the nation's most hotly contested constitutional and civil rights issues, I have come to the conclusion that there is no more important legal issue than the composition of the federal courts. I'm honored to be part of the premier organization devoted to putting constitutionalist judges on the Supreme Court and the lower federal courts."
Curt Levey can be reached at (202) 270-7748.
